The School of Languages and Literatures at the University Park campus of Penn State is an administrative structure that includes the Department of Comparative Literature, the Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures, the Linguistics Program, the Center for Language Acquisition (CLA), the Center for Advanced Language Proficiency Education and Research (CALPER),  and the Department of Applied Linguistics, which includes the ESL curriculum.  The School's purpose is to promote the study and knowledge of foreign and second languages and literatures, particularly where the interests of language and literature intersect.
